RCVTech Hypex NC500 / NCX500 Input Buffer Board

The main question is what is the purpose of the buffers for Hypex Class D amplfiers. The simple answer is that the input impedance of the Hypex Class D modules is quite low making it impossible for most pre-amplfiers to drive it. The buffers have very high input impedance and very low output impedance as well as add extra gain making them a vital part of the Class D power amplifiers.

Hypex NC500 modules completely depend on the external buffers. Using RCVTech buffer board allows NC500 based amplifier achieve 95% performance of the NCX500 modules.

NCX500 modules have an excellent built in OEM buffer. Bypassing it gives the user an option of installing higher grade IC or discrete OPAMPs with the dedicated Voltage regulators, higher grade capacitors and precision molded metal film resistors, further reducing the noise and improving overall listening experience.

The dimensions of these boards are the same as of the Hypex evaluations boards so that they could be used as drop in replacements. The gain is also the same as in NC500 evaluation board or built in NCX500 ~13-14dB.

RCVTech buffers are built on four layer PCBs with two internal dedicated ground planes. The speaker output tracks are carefully routed away from the input tracks to the end of the board allowing the shorter connection cables to the speaker post and reducing the chance of the interference with the input signals and power cables.

The modules use gold plated DIP-8 IC Socket ROHS which allow multiple choices of dual channel opamps. We currently offer MUSES01, MUSES02 and Sparkos SS3602 but the board will fit even bigger dual discrete opamps. The opamps we offer are the ones we found to work the best with our HYPEX NCX500 and NC500 based amplifiers. They are optimized for high-end audio and professional audio applications with advanced circuitry and layout, unique material and assembled technology by skilled-craftwork.

As mentioned above, RCVTech buffers support both Hypex NC500 and NCX500 modules. Even though NCX500 was built for easy replacement of NC500 it does require a different buffer board. NC500 require regulated 12V inputs to drive the modulator stage. NCX500 comes with its own HPR12/HNR12 Voltage regulators which require 15V to 25V to produce 12VDC locally. RCVTech buffers have two jumpers J1 and J2 which need to be set for either NC500 or NCX500 mode of operation.
